Orissa eves bag 4 medals in Federation Cup

A four-member Orissa squad won four medals, including one gold in the 2nd Federation Cup Women’s Boxing Championship, which concluded at Nainital yesterday. According to information received here, ace pugilist Mamata Panda (Ganjam) retained her title in the light-fly weight (48kg) category, defeating Haryana’s Swadeshi by 22-9 points in the final. Her Statemates Ashu Rani and Sasmita Das (both Khurda) claimed a silver each after losing in the finals. Swarnasikha Biswal (Khurda) also lived upto her reputation by winning a bronze for the second time in a row. ‘‘This is the best performance in the history of women’s boxing in the State,’’ said leading boxing coach Shankar Prasad Adhikary today.
